If there's one thing the city of Austin knows how to do well, it's definitely throwing a great festival. From the world-renowned South by Southwest film, interactive, and music festival to the Austin Reggae Festival, the Austin Wine & Music Festival, and many more, this Southern metropolis knows how to throw down when it comes to having a huge celebration in the city.
The Pecan Street Festival is definitely one of these celebrations and, for 34 years now, has been one of the go-to festivals for Austin residents and visitors alike looking for a great time in this vibrant city.
This year, the Pecan Street Festival will go down in the weekend of May 5 and 6. This huge, bi-annual celebration in Downtown Austin takes place on 6th Street along 24 blocks (Brazos to I-35) of shops, vendors, live entertainment, and more. This longstanding festival is now expected to draw over 300,000 visitors over the course of the weekend.
The festival will feature live, local music on three awesome stages throughout the festival area starting at noon and going into the late night hours. This past fall, Nakia from the famous TV talent show, The Voice headlined the Pecan Street Festival concerts alongside a number of great local musicians.
Festivalgoers can also browse a HUGE variety of vendors selling everything from paintings to sculptures, woodwork, candles, jewelry, cowboy hats, home decor, games, and so much more. In addition, there will be a ton of food vendors on hand selling a variety of delectable treats including crepes, turkey legs, shrimp/chicken/alligator on a stick, and tacos.
The Pecan Street Festival kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5 and runs until 10 a.m. On Sunday, the fest runs from 11 a.m. till 8 p.m. Best of all, the Pecan Street Festival is completely FREE to attend. For more information, head to www.oldpecanstreetfestival.com.
