While Halloween is suppose to be a "scary" time, many people enjoy the fun festivities for Halloween. Things like haunted houses, hay rides, pumpkin patches, trick-or-treating, and much more. There are lots of fun Halloween events in Austin with many of them being little to no cost.
We had the pleasure of attending the Trick or Treat Trail and Carnival at the Northwest Recreation Center. This was an Austin Parks and Recreation event and was totally free. Upon entry, we received 12 tickets to use on games, lemonade, and popcorn. If you need more tickets, you can fill out the survey and receive 5 extra tickets.
There were several fun games to play that were Halloween themed and offered candy prizes. Some of the games included ghost bowling, mystery boxes, pumpkin ring toss, face painting, tattoos, and much more. There was also 2 bounce houses for the kids to enjoy as well as refreshments and a "mad scientist" mixing up crazy demonstrations for the youngsters.
Although there was no costume contest, many of the kids did wear Halloween costumes. Along with all this fun, there was a "Trick or Treat Trail" which reminded me of a haunted house. When you enter, you go through a dark maze where kids stop at exhibits to trick-or-treat for candy. Halfway through, there is a place to exit before entering the "scare zone." In the scare zone, things got a lot more freaky and frightening. This was definitely not for the faint at heart.
With so much fun, and a bag full of candy, this event was hard to put a price tag on. But nobody would complain that it was a FREE Halloween event in Austin!
There are many more events like this still to come so make sure to check out the Austin Halloween page for more fun Halloween events. If you are looking for a similar event to the Northwest Recreation Center Trick or Treat Trail and Carnival, check out the Halloween Carnival and Haunted House at the Montopolis Recreation Center on Halloween night.
Make sure to stay safe, enjoy the Halloween season, and have a freaky good time!!
