The Greater South River City in Austin sits in the south central part of its urban corridor. Compromised of South River City and St. Edwards, this location is bordered by Town Lake on the North, North Ben White on the South, South Congress on the West and IH-35 on its East. This community is lush with greenery and historic homes. Residents and business owners alike are pushing for its growth while trying to preserve what the neighborhood means too many.
With just over 10,000 residents, most of whom are between the ages 24 and 35, South River City is a thriving place to be. Filled with historic landmarks, this part of Austin is unique and has continued to overcome obstacles such as floods that stood in its way. There are nearly 20 homes in South River City that have been named historic landmarks. St. Edwards University's Main Building along with the Holly Cross Hall should also be on your list of must see's.
The shops and businesses that fill South River City are distinguished and unique. The nationally known Continental Club is located here and is said that this was the first establishment in Austin to serve liquor to customers individually. The well known Night Hawk frozen dinner brand was first established as a restaurant right here in South River City. Although the original #1 Night Hawk restaurant is no longer in business, its fonder Harry Atkins is an entreprenuer legend to many in Austin.
